Company History

Healthy Pets Brands LLC, part of the Medical Products Laboratories Inc. Group, was founded in 1928 by Dr. Harold G Stone (picture at right). Dr. Stone’s first passion was to develop various types of medicaments for his company. His second passion was riding horses. In his spare time, he volunteered to ride with the Pennsylvania Mounted State Police headquartered in Harrisburg, PA. While serving his state and thinking about his love for the animals, he created and developed original products for horses. As examples, formulas which soothed saddle sores and blood coagulants which stopped bleeding in their hooves. Eighty years later, MPL maintains a special division which develops and manufactures various wound care products, ear cleaners, tear stain removers, toothpaste and many other products just for pets.
 
Now a 3rd generation company, the MPL group has begun to create formulas to be packaged under one of its own trade names, “Healthy Pets Brands”. Our mission is to develop products which promote the health and improve the lives of our pets.

Freezy Bones is Born

We are Dr. Stone’s grandsons and we each have our own Golden Retriever – Remi and Shana (pictures at right). Both are older dogs and are given daily vitamin supplements to help with stiffness, arthritis, and other joint problems. Like all dogs, Remi and Shana certainly do not enjoy taking their pills so it’s usually wrapped in a piece of cheese to disguise the taste.

Since we are both into exercising and eating healthy, we naturally want the same for our “best friends”. We don’t feed our dogs the fatty pig’s ears, raw hides that are hard to digest or some of those other frozen treats made from animal and/or vegetable fat. If you really think about it, there are no truly healthy treats available for your pet on the market today!  

During the summer months when the dogs would lay out by the pool we wanted to give them a cool treat so we fed them some crushed ice with a little bit of flavored syrup poured on top which people from the Philadelphia area refer to as “Water Ice”. We quickly realized that if we crushed up the vitamin pills and added them to the syrup, the result would be a healthy treat that our dogs would love! So we started filling up the ice cube trays in the freezer with this liquid and popping them out to give to Remi and Shana as a healthy treat “all year round”!  

Four years later Freezy Bones was born. This is the first and only treat that is shipped, stored and sold at room temperature and then taken home and popped into the freezer to be enjoyed by any dog – any time! It is a low calorie, low fat treat with no sugar and no dairy products. It is currently available in 3 formulas; Daily Vitamin, Senior and Odor Control with other formulas currently being developed.  

Like all dog lovers, we consider Remi and Shana part of our family and we hope your dog enjoys Freezy Bones as much as ours do.
